Book 6: Chapter 2 – Strange Animals

  1. The Komondor is a large, white-coloured Hungarian breed of livestock guardian dog with a long, corded coat. The Komondor breed has been declared one of Hungary’s national treasures.

  2. The white-faced saki, also known as the Guianan saki and the golden-faced saki, is a species of saki monkey, a type of New World monkey, found in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. This species lives in the understory and lower canopy of the forest, feeding mostly on fruits, but also eating nuts, seeds and insects.

  3. The leafy seadragon or Glauert's seadragon is a marine fish in the family Syngnathidae, which also includes the seahorses. It is found along the southern and western coasts of Australia. The name is derived from the appearance, with long leaf-like protrusions coming from all over the body.

  4. The aye-aye is a lemur, a primate native to Madagascar that combines rodent-like teeth and a special thin middle finger to fill the same ecological niche as a woodpecker. In length, a full-grown aye-aye is typically about three feet long with a tail as long as its body.
